Turkish is one of the U.S. government’s top 13 critical need languages for U.S. students in higher education. With over 80 million Turkish speakers worldwide, professional fluency in Turkish provides students with a multitude of career options with the federal government, in the nonprofit sector, and within an increasingly globalized business sector.
In addition to regular coursework, our students spend one summer studying domestically at IU’s Summer Language Workshop; a summer abroad in Azerbaijan; and an entire Capstone year in Azerbaijan, featuring language and culture courses at Azerbaijan Languages University and a part-time internship.
To master a language and understand another culture you need to immerse yourself through overseas study. We offer a variety of Flagship scholarships to help fund your study abroad experience.
In addition to achieving professional-level language proficiency, allowing you to more easily live and work in a Turkish speaking country, you’ll complete an internship in Azerbaijan in your field of interest as part of your Capstone year.
Turkish has become a vital and necessary language for understanding global and international politics, economics, and cultures. In our program, you achieve professional language proficiency, obtain a depth of knowledge with Turkish culture, and gain professional experience. But, don’t just take our word from it. Watch this video and hear how the Turkish Flagship has prepared our students for our increasingly more globalized world.
