Haily is from Indianapolis, Indiana, and is in her final year as an undergraduate. She is majoring in Cognitive Science, Linguistics, and Central Eurasian Studies with minors in Psychology and Spanish. Haily studied in Ankara, Turkey, for a summer with the Critical Language Scholarship, as well as in Baku, Azerbaijan, (see picture) for a year with the Flagship. Haily chose to study Turkish because of the rich and colorful culture surrounding the language. After graduating, she plans to pursue a PhD. in Cognitive Science, studying the role of language in how people understand abstract concepts. Her knowledge of Turkish will be integral to this research because it will allow her to make cross-linguistic comparisons with the other languages she speaks, Spanish and French. Outside of school, Haily enjoys volunteering at Global Gifts (a Fair Trade store), being outside, reading, and drawing.
