Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL)

Study abroad at a dynamic university

Established in 1936 in response to a dearth of Azeri educators teaching foreign languages, Azerbaijan University of Languages is now the premier institution in Azerbaijan for the study language, literature and international relations. The university operates within the European education system, and has four schools, 28 departments and many centers and labs conducting research on everything from religion and philosophy to language pedagogy and journalism.

Azerbaijan University of Languages offers unique programs through international partnerships, which provides the students with broad exposure to international models of education and training. Over 20 languages are used as language of instruction!

The university offers programs in Philology, Foreign Language Teaching, Translation and Interpreting, International Relations and Regional Studies in the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. The university places a strong emphasis on research and innovative teaching. A great number of international projects and partnerships are initiated which focus on developing modern research skills and enhancing academic quality.

Turkish Flagship students are taught at the Baku American Center on the first floor of AUL’s main building. The American Center was established at AUL in 2007 in partnership with the U.S. State Department. The facilities include a free library with resources in Azerbaijani, English and Russian. Clubs, conferences, courses, and cultural activities frequently take place in the space, giving Turkish Flagship students the opportunity to interact with local students. Turkish Flagship has a small lounge and modern classroom dedicated to our students’ use.

American Councils works closely with Jala Garibova, Vice-Rector for International Relations at AUL to ensure that Turkish Flagship students’ educational and social needs are met. We are excited to be partnering with AUL’s dynamic instructors and responsive staff.
