The Capstone year is an immersive experience. Turkish Flagship students take intensive language courses throughout the year, as well as survey courses on Turkish and Azerbaijani culture with visiting Turkish and Azeri faculty. Students live with carefully-selected host families to immerse themselves in the culture and reinforce their communication skills. They are also assigned conversation partners, who are typically university students, to help them gain colloquial knowledge of Turkish and acclimate to life in Baku.
Following a semester of study, Turkish Flagship students participate in a part-time semester-long internship related to their academic discipline or career interests. They work closely with their Resident Director, the American Councils office in Baku and their host institution to identify suitable positions.
