The Turkish Flagship is an undergraduate program at Indiana University Bloomington designed for students who wish to achieve advanced professional proficiency in Turkish while pursuing a degree in their chosen field.

Recruitment Scholarships

Turkish Flagship offers two $9,000 recruitment scholarships to outstanding students entering our program each year. The scholarship is typically distributed over three years ($1,500 each semester of Turkish language study). Exceptions may be made for students completing the program in an accelerated timeframe.

Students who have been admitted to the Turkish Flagship program and who are enrolled in introductory Turkish are eligible to apply. Applications, which include several 300-word essays are due by December 10th, 2018.

The Turkish Flagship scholarships committee will meet in December and announce award decisions by early January, 2019.


Apply for a $9,000 Recruitment Scholarship

Merit Scholarships

Turkish Flagship Center (TF) Scholarships are reserved for especially committed and talented Turkish language learners. Turkish Flagship students may apply for the Scholarship for academic year abroad at Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL), summer study at AUL, as well as intensive Turkish courses during the summer session at IU. To be eligible for the Scholarship students must meet the following criteria:

    - Accepted Turkish Flagship student in good standing

    - Demonstrated commitment to studying Turkish

    - Admitted to study abroad at AUL –OR— enrolled in a summer intensive Turkish course at IU

    - Have made an effort to seek funding from other sources

    - Active participation in TF activities

    - History of volunteerism and participation

While all TF students who meet the above criteria are eligible to apply for Scholarships, not all students will receive them. The amount of the Scholarship is based on funds available and is awarded to students based on the strength of their application.
