American Council Managing Director Graham Hettlinger came to IU last Thursday, November 8th and gave a presentation about the summer and capstone study abroad opportunities for Turkish language students in Baku, Azerbaijan. He and his assistant, a Russian Flagship alumna, detailed both the host family and academic opportunities for students.
Students were clarified on the recent changes from the internship to research opportunities. As former students had reported less than ideal experiences with the internships, the program had recently shifted its emphasis towards student research.
Students were also reminded of the rigor of the intensive study abroad programs. Ultimately, a high level of rigor is necessary for students to reach professional/superior level proficiency in Turkish. Mr. Hettlinger emphasized this aspect of the program. Overall, the Information Session was quite informative and useful for students planning on studying abroad.
