In July, Turkish Flagship staff and tutors presented three Turkish language classes and three cultural sessions to two cohorts of high school participants in the 2018 Business is Global international business summer camp.
Despite the fact that most Business is Global, or BIG, students came into the classroom with zero previous exposure to Turkish, everyone left with some knowledge of Turkish language greetings and introductions, classroom objects, formal and informal language, and business etiquette—and everyone learned their numbers, zero through ten and beyond! Each day of class incorporated traditional or popular music in some way. Students passed a traditional hat around the classroom, and when the music stopped, they drew a word from the hat and translated it from Turkish to English.
The BIG group also enjoyed cultural sessions covering Turkish folk dancing, Turkish water marbling (known as Ebru), backgammon; and Culture Night having Turkish coffee and Turkish coffee ground reading, Turkish tea, and evil eye bracelets.
