Turkish Flagship joined local organizations, including the Monroe County Public Library, the Arabic Flagship, and cultural centers from Indiana University, to participate in the 23rd Annual Lotus Blossoms World Bazaar at Fairview Elementary School. Over 1,000 students and their families came to the Bazaar to hear live music, create cultural arts and crafts, and sample exotic fruits.
Volunteers from the Turkish Flagship shared Turkish culture with students from the Bloomington area through arts and crafts. Children and their families were invited to make paper Iznik tiles and to color Iznik coloring pages. The volunteers enjoyed seeing how the children used the tiles to create their own works of art. While some children replicated example tiles, other made self-portraits and picturesque scenes. Parents, too, enjoyed the booth, and Turkish Flagship volunteers spoke with them about the Turkish art form. It was a great opportunity for Turkish Flagship volunteers to share an important aspect of Turkish culture and to interact with the Bloomington community.
